To build eLearning contents, I generally prefer hand-writing whenever possible. It is an effective tool that teachers are good at & students also understand it very well - emphasis, illusrtation. One big advantage is that its production time is very less and it is the most intuitive among all animation & eLearning content development tools.

So I did some carpentry on one Friday evening, and built this small wooden studio. This 1 hour effort has paid off since then, and I am able to create quick eLearning contents.

The camera fits on top. And a writing pad is kept below the camera. Using carema software I flip images vertically so that they appear up-right. Generally light source kept behind the camera is sufficient. If required I play a little bit with natural light coming from window near my desk.

Generally my production time is just a few minutes more that actual lecture duration. My production cycle

  • Start with scope definition of lecture.
  • Then build paper slides with sketch pens. Here avoid light colors like - yellow and orange. Blue, Black, and Brown appear better.
  • With silent surroundings, start video/audio recording. Deliver lecture as if you have students in front of you.
  • After lecture, edit any verbal/visual glitches using tools like Virtual Dub.
  • Then add subtitles, video footers and title/end music if required.
